Danish X Channel “Danish Scout” has no mercy on the error of Mads Hermansen, as we all could see what is and always will become a foolish mistake. These type of goalkeeper errors could cost Leicester highly if they appear again this season. Enzo Maresca defends his goalkeeper and makes a huge point of Mads Hermansen and his ball distribution, but using reverse psychology in this situation also looks foolish and could of course backlash heavily on the man in charge.Mads Hermansen has since his arrival at Leicester, been extreme in his distribution of the ball, often playing with too much risk and arrogance, and to do what he did vs. Birmingham, makes all fans heavily angry, as this has nothing to do with distribution and is just lack of concentration as the obvious happens, being punished. This looks stupid every day of the week and every minute of the hour. Goalkeepers do have a problematic situation with stubborn managers having smart ideas as we yesterday did see Mads Hermansen after his mistake going into another modus. He played more long balls, being threatened to be dropped if that continues. This is not good at all as you over time will get a goalkeeper with less confidence.Enzo Maresca makes a major point of the error, and says he will drop Mads Hermansen and replace him with Jacub Stolarczyk if he decides to use the long ball too often. Maresca earlier in the season made comments on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and him shooting too much, and since KDH has not fired as much, but was the shooting of the midfielder wrong, hardly not, as we seldom see shots from distance from the midfielders, often having the three up front shooting from a closer range, often making Leicester more predictable and easy to read. The strict patterns of Enzo Maresca, his drilldowns and football ideas are of course giving us all pleasures and headaches. The belief in a players ability and self justice looks to have little or no relevance. Enzo Maresca needs to calm down and give all players more freedom and trust as his strict and sometimes fanatic approach could stop progress. Players need to be able to play free, and if you cannot find your pattern in play, without strict guidelines and having a straitjacket on, then you might have to reconsider, as this will often go into a lock. Mads Hermansen was not the only goalkeeper doing silly mistakes and errors in this round of EFL and PL games. Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric was involved in a similar situation as Dominic Calvert-Lewin snapped the ball, scoring the only goal of the game. The Clarets losing out on all points as the fault became crucial. The Athletic do have a number of interesting articles, also having one on this topic as well. We see the best goalkeepers at the top clubs, doing these errors. Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal, is a goalkeeper that over the years has gone on to become an England full international, but still Mike Arteta did not trust him, placed him on the subs-bench, mostly because of his many distribution errors, and instead made a loan signing, bringing in David Raya from Brentford. This type of goalkeeping distribution with the risk of losing the ball in certain banal situations, looks to be the one major topic among stubborn managers not in any way taking the critisism on board, as they of course understand the problem. They need to find a more pragmatic approach to save the goalkeeper and not turn all of them into clowns. Would of course ease the pressure on the goalkeepers as it becomes difficult to understand when to do what, regarding distribution. Looking up Mads Hermansen and Jakup Stolarczyk, they both do use the long ball at times, and they should if they are under heavy pressure and without a good alternative to use. The opposite could see errors and faults being made that easily could cost the team points. Goalkeepers will be the once having “the monkey”, and in the end they will just be the once punished for their errors. Hopefully it will be possible to go forward with a better plan, having the on the feet flooring ball as the main distribution act, but also using the long ball, when it looks more logical.
