Leeds United beat Middlesbrough 4-3 in a highly entertaining Championship clash, with Paddy Kenny saying he had to mute Sky Sports’ coverage of the match.
Leeds and Middlesbrough played out a seven-goal thriller at the Riverside Stadium, but Kenny posted on X 38 minutes into the match, suggesting that the Sky commentators were sending him to sleep.
By the time Kenny sent his post, the game had already seen four goals and was locked level at 2-2, with Wilfried Gnonto putting Leeds 3-2 up just minutes later to cap off a thrilling first half. Leeds were in control for large periods, but as has been the case in recent matches during a poor run of form, were prone to moments of sloppiness at the back which yielded all three of Middlesbrough’s goals.
That poor run of form appears to be over though, with Leeds netting three very well-worked goals on top of a clinical Crysencio Summerville penalty as the Whites’ attack finally clicked back into top gear.
The Dutchman’s spot-kick brought Leeds back from 1-0 down early on, and a pinpoint Junior Firpo cross was swept in by Patrick Bamford before Gnonto drilled in Leeds’ third six minutes before half-time, either side of Emmanuel Latte Lath beating Illan Meslier too easily for a Boro equaliser against the run of play.
Summerville’s second goal, curled home in trademark fashion following a free-flowing move from Leeds, sent him and his team-mates charging towards a raucous away end, and as someone who knows all about the Whites’ travelling support, you’d hope Kenny had taken his fingers out of his ears by then.
