David Ornstein has admitted that it would be “surprising” if West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus isn’t on Liverpool’s radar ahead of the transfer window.
The Ghanaian international has enjoyed a superb first season at the London Stadium, scoring seven goals and laying on five assists in his first 30 Premier League games to impress under David Moyes.
Athletic journalist Ornstein has previously confirmed that the 23-year-old has a release clause in his contract and while he thinks clubs will be keen to sign him, he doesn’t think the Hammers will let him leave without a fight.
He said: “I don’t know if Kudus is an option but he is a brilliant player, has enjoyed an excellent debut season and it would be surprising if he wasn’t on the radar of Liverpool and any other leading club looking to strengthen in that part of the pitch.
It isn’t an alleged release clause, there is one — as has been reported in various places. I don’t know the details but Kudus is not alone in having such a mechanism in his contract; Paqueta and other West Ham players do, too. You’ll remember it was one of the reasons why he didn’t end up joining Brighton “I have no idea if it would be a hindrance or a help… that depends on the terms and the financial situations of his potential suitors. West Ham will of course want to keep Kudus and build with him.

It is set to be a summer of change at the London Stadium with rumours emerging around Moyes’ long-term future at the London Stadium beyond the end of the season and plenty of uncertainty heading into the transfer window.
Regardless of what happens in the dugout, the Irons won’t want to lose any of their key stars as they look to continue to progress. That will almost certainly include both Kudus and Lucas Paqueta who has been linked with Manchester City.
Release clauses do mean that it won’t be easy for the Hammers to brush off any interest should it arrive come the end of the season, but the Irons will hope their project is enough to see the players reject a summer switch.
Whether or not that will be the case remains to be seen, but you would have to imagine that those in charge at the London Stadium won’t be happy that these clauses have been so publically reported this close to the end of the season.
