West Ham United have decided they are going to part ways with David Moyes at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.
After the 5-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Romano reported that Julen Lopetegui has already been approached to replace the 61-year-old, whose London Stadium contract expires this summer.
It is understood that the decision to let Moyes leave was made before the Irons were beaten in West London this weekend.
Who will be the next West Ham manager?Based on the club’s recent form, it’s no shock to see that the curtain is closing on Moyes’ time as the West Ham manager.
It’s sad to see it end this way because he’s done superbly at the London Stadium, easily becoming the greatest manager to grace East London in generations.Upon his return to the club in 2019, he saved the Irons from relegation to the Championship despite inheriting a mess of a squad from Manuel Pellegrini.
He then went on to secure consecutive seasons in Europe, culminating in winning the 2022/23 Europa Conference League in Prague last year.
If there’s anyone from the last few decades who deserves a statue at the London Stadium, it’s Moyes, which is why it’s so sad to see what looks like a team that’s completely given up ruining his Stratford swansong.
Everyone seems to have run out of steam. No one seems to be buying into Moyes’ plan of attack for games. And, sadly, a lot of fans turned on the Scotsman a long time ago.
Lopetegui might not be a popular hire and a lot of people would probably rather see Moyes stay.But that does seem to be the direction David Sullivan and co are going in.Let’s see how that unfolds.
