Bruno Fernandes lauded Man United manager Erik ten Hag after winning the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday.Captain Bruno Fernandes said manager Erik ten Hag got “everything” right tactically after Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.United clinched their first FA Cup crown since 2016 as a result of first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Garnacho pounced a City defensive blunder before Mainoo finished off a sweeping United move with an ice-cool finish.Substitute Jeremy Doku pulled back a late consolation goal for City, setting up a tense finale, but United held on to secure a second trophy in as many seasons under Ten Hag. United were full value for the victory, limiting City to very few sightings of Andre Onana’s goal.United, just as they did against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion, set up with Fernandes playing the role of a ‘false nine’, meaning they packed central areas. It was that approach the Portuguese felt worked so well.Asked what Ten Hag got right tactically, Fernandes told ITV Sport: “Everything. He prepares every game well. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I think you could see it was about being compact and making pressure between the lines.”Ten Hag, when making his end-of-season speech on the Old Trafford playing surface after the win over Newcastle just over a week ago, vowed that United’s players would “give everything” to win the final. Fernandes felt United’s determination and spirit was key to getting the job done.”We knew what we needed to win today,” Fernandes added. “They are a brilliant team, they play good football and have amazing players, but we knew if we had the right spirit we could win today.
