It has been suggested that Jose Cordoba is good enough to play in a top European league which will see him thrive at Rangers should he sign this summer.

The Gers are said to be “on the brink” of signing the Panamanian [The Scottish Sun] ahead of the summer transfer window.

This would mark the first signing before a maiden pre-season with the Light Blues for Philippe Clement.

It may prove to be a useful bit of business for Rangers, especially given the praise that Panamanian journalist Alvaro Martinez has afforded him (25 May).

He said: “For me, José Córdoba has the level to play in a Top 5 league in Europe and come however they want. In Rangers of Scotland, he will play extremely well.

Jose Cordoba to kick start Rangers transfer window There are set to be several departures from Ibrox throughout the course of the summer transfer window that will need replacing.

Loanees like Fabio Silva, Mohammed Diomande and Abdallah Sima will leave a hole in the Gers squad which needs filling.

Add to this the departures of staple players like Leon Balogun and an almost new squad is going to be needed this summer.

Cordoba could represent the start of the Clement revolution as he strives to build a side capable of going up against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

The Panamanian is clearly highly rated and could slot perfectly into the Rangers back line next season despite costing just £3 million.

Reviews suggest that he is a player capable of playing for a top side in a great league and that is exactly the kind of player the Gers want and need.

Picking up quality players from obscure leagues and nations for cheap fees is going to be an important factor this summer.
