The dust is now starting to settle following Mauricio Pochettino’s shock exit from Chelsea.
On one hand, you had a manager who missed his brief which was to return the club to Champions League football, so some are glad he has gone.
But others feel Chelsea were starting to show progression with a young and injury-hit squad, so he should have stayed put.
Either way, it feels like the London club have taken a step backwards and they are now looking for a new manager to take to the Stamford Bridge dugout.
Chelsea ended the season in sixth place. That’s normally Europa League football. Given the season the team just produced, fans were relieved to be in that competition rather than the Europa Conference League because it would be another entry into the Champions League, if they won it.
But Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Manchester City on Saturday at Wembley means that it’s Conference League football for those in blue next season and no Europe at all for seventh-placed Newcastle United.
You just wonder what the incoming manager will be thinking of that, with names left, right and centre suggested, mainly young guns.
But a familiar face has also been talked about – one Jose Mourinho – the three-time Premier League title winner is currently a free agent after being sacked by AS Roma earlier on in the year.
Michael Brown was reacting to claims that Mourinho could replace Pochettino and he simply ‘doesn’t believe’ that will become a reality, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The former midfielder stated that he would leave if Mourinho became Chelsea manager again given his situation and who runs the club now.

It seems as though you do things on their order, especially when it comes to the players coming in.
There has been a lot of talk around Conor Gallagher’s future, sources have told HITC that it’s likely he will leave this summer, even though he played 50 out of 51 games under Pochettino.
Mourinho has won a lot in his career, including the Treble at Inter. The trophies are stacked up and he would win more at Chelsea.
But you just couldn’t see a man of his character accepting any nonsense from the Chelsea owners because he would want his things his way and his way only, but it seems the coach doesn’t have that power.
