Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist have discussed whether Everton would be the right move for Kalvin Phillips this summer after news broke on Tuesday (28 May).
The Toffees are exploring a loan move for the former Leeds United star ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, though Manchester City would prefer to sell.
The 28-year-old has struggled since leaving Elland Road in 2022, becoming an outcast under Pep Guardiola before disappointing during a six-month loan spell with West Ham United.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (29 May, 8:56am), Stelling said: “We all know he’s had a terrible run. I’ll tell you what… I expected him to go back to Leeds. But, Sean Dyche could be just the right manager.
Agreeing with Stelling, McCoist added: “I don’t disagree. He’s lost his way, hasn’t he? It’s a great shame. I’d be devastated if he went down the same road as Dele Alli. He’s still got a lot to offer.
“The right coach could be everything to him, and Dyche might be that kind of man. I really feel for him because no one enjoys seeing someone’s career on the decline.
The form has dipped, he’s not playing enough games and he’s nowhere near the England squad. Something has to give. You just hope he gets a wee break somewhere. Whether that’s Everton and Sean Dyche, I’m not so sure but it wouldn’t be the worst move for him.

Despite the scepticism, Everton ace Amadou Onana could be set to leave the club this summer, amassing plenty of interest throughout the season, which would leave a gap in the squad for Phillips.
There is no doubt that the 28-year-old possesses the talent to thrive on Merseyside, but with his confidence at an all-time low, Dyche will need to bring him back to his former glory.
It is understandable why the talkSPORT pair are worried about Phillips, especially after an extremely poor loan spell at the London Stadium this season, making just 10 total appearances.
