The Chilean defender is set to bring the curtain down on his Godoy Cruz career.
Rangers could turn their attention to Chilean defender Thomas Galdames after the £3million swoop for Jose Cordoba dramatically collapsed.
Philippe Clement looked set to make Levski Sofia defender Cordoba his second summer signing following on from the arrival of Brazilian left back Jefte. But Ibrox chiefs last night ended their interest in the 22-year-old Panama international who now looks set to sign for Norwich City. The Cordoba no deal came after the player had been given a tour of Rangers facilities ahead of a proposed move from Bulgaria. He was even a guest at the win over Kilmarnock earlier this month.
His performances are expected to win him a place in his nation’s Copa America squad. But Levski Sofia chiefs expect that competition to raise his value – and Rangers have decided to move on to other targets for now. Clement is eager to bolster his backline and could swoop on South America for a second time with Galdames heavily linked.
The 25-year-old left sided defender is expected to play his last game for Argentinian club Godoy Cruz in this week’s Copa Argentina tie against El Porvenir. Galdames, who has made 47 appearances for Primera Division club, has only six months left of his contract and would be available for a cut-price fee if signed during the summer transfer window.
Son of 22-times capped Chile midfielder Pablo Galdames, the defender was named in Chile’s squad for the first time for their friendly next month with Paraguay. Speaking last week his father said: “I am not just saying this because he is my son – he knows I am his harshest critic – but Thomas has improved so much recently, physically and football-wise.
“He was named in the Team of the Year in Argentina and that was a very important achievement for him. He is playing at a very good level and of course, he now has to think about taking the next step to Europe.
”The Ibrox club will look to cash in on Sam Lammers to help bolster their summer recruitment drive. The Dutch misfit netted only two goals after being signed for £3.5m from Atalanta by Michael Beale a year ago.
He was loaned out to Utrecht in his homeland in January and scored 11 times. Now the Eredivisie side are keen to make his deal permanent. But Rangers are holding out to at least claw their money back on the 27-year-old forward with other Dutch sides monitoring his situation.
