Details have emerged of Mohammed Kudus’ West Ham release clause amid interest from Liverpool this summer.
The news outlet report that the Ghana international has an £85million exit clause in his deal that will become active in the summer of 2025.
Lucas Paqueta has a similar deal in his contract, with the clause becoming active two years after joining, but Hammers sources had so far refused to reveal details up until this point [The Athletic, 21 May].
The Anfield club are keen to sign Kudus this summer for new manager Arne Slot, and have been tipped to move for the ex-Ajax star if Mohamed Salah leaves for Saudi Arabia [Dean Jones, 5 May].
West Ham must keep Mohammed Kudus at all costs There is plenty of talk that several stars are wanted elsewhere at the London Stadium, but Julen Lopetegui and the board must do all they can to ensure it doesn’t happen.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Jarrod Bowen [Simon Phillips, 25 April], as have Newcastle United [Telegraph, 23 May], while Liverpool are said to be keen on Kudus.
But with Manchester City withdrawing their interest in Lucas Paqueta due to his betting charges and a suspension pending [HITC, 24 May], West Ham can’t afford to lose anyone else.
Even with Paqueta still at the club it seems unlikely that the Brazilian will be allowed to play much next season considering the seriousness of his charges, meaning the team will need all the talent and quality they have to perform.
Kudus had a fantastic debut campaign in east London and will only get better in the upcoming campaign, so this has to be a strictly no-go zone for the board.
