Dharmesh Sheth believes that West Ham could increase the valuation of Flynn Downes as Southampton want to sign him.

The Sky Sports journalist states that the possibility of him reintegrating himself into the Hammers’ first team for next season.

The 25-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with the Saints and helped get them up to the Premier League.

Sheth told Give Me Sport on 3 June: “One of two things could potentially happen.

“He could reintegrate himself into the West Ham team, and they could say ‘right, we’ve seen enough, we want you to play’. Or, they could think, ‘well hold on. When he went on loan his price was probably at this level. Now that he’s performed this well, if Southampton want him maybe we might just add a little zero to that price tag’, just to see how much Southampton want him.

“So West Ham United in a good position. Flynn Downes is in a good position and Southampton will probably want to see what they can do on that front, because he was really key in everything good that Southampton did in that promotion push last season, so that will definitely be one to watch.

West Ham hold the upper hand in the Flynn Downes negotiation
It’s crucial for the Hammers to set a firm price for Downes and not compromise, as they currently hold the upper hand in negotiations with Southampton.

They are in a strong position because the Englishman has proven his worth during his loan spell at Southampton, significantly contributing to their promotion.

This successful stint has likely increased his market value.

By setting a non-negotiable price, West Ham can ensure they receive a fair transfer fee for Downes.

Given his experience and performance, he could be a valuable asset for the Hammers in the upcoming season, potentially saving them the cost and effort of finding a replacement.

Maintaining a firm stance also demonstrates the Irons’ confidence in Downes’ abilities and sends a message to other potential suitors about the club’s resolve in transfer negotiations.
