Gary Lineker has reacted to the recent transfer business involving Everton, Chelsea and a couple of other Premier League clubs.

Podcaster Alice Abrahams highlighted the recent transactions those two sides, plus Newcastle United and Aston Villa, have been involved in via her personal X account [23 June].

Those deals include Everton selling Lewis Dobbin to Villa for £10million, despite a supposed valuation of £2m.

The Toffees have also bought Tim Iroegbunam from the Villans for roughly the same fee – way over double his valuation.

Newcastle are in talks to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin as part of a deal that would see Yankuba Minteh move the opposite way, meanwhile.

Match of the Day host Lineker replied on his personal X account [23 June] with a thinking face emoji, as if to air his own confusion over the deals.

Everton transfer business under the spotlight
We were told a while back that this summer transfer window would be like no other for Premier League clubs.

After a very quiet January window in which every team seemed reluctant to do business, they are now having to be a lot smarter.

The reason, of course, is because of PSR. There are limits to stick within – as Everton fans know only too well – and money needs to be cashed by 30 June.

Nobody can justify the sums of money being spent on the players mentioned above, but ultimately everyone is benefiting in a way.

From the outside looking in, as Lineker is, it does look very strange. But there is a method to the madness and Everton are doing what they have to.

It is going to be a very long summer, but all we can hope is that the squad is stronger come the start of September compared to the end of May.
