AC Milan have set their sights on Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid strong interest from Newcastle United.

The news outlet reported on its online edition on Sunday (23 June) that Milan see Calvert-Lewin as a possible replacement for Olivier Giroud.

However, if the 19-time Serie A winners are to generate funds for the forward, they will first need to sell another of their players.

Newcastle are said to be in ā€œadvancedā€ stages of discussions with Everton over a move for Calvert-Lewin [GiveMeSport, 23 June].

Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin a player in demand
Calvert-Lewin may only have netted seven goals in the Premier League last season, but he stepped up at an important time and played a big part in the Toffeesā€™ fight for survival.

While the England international may frustrate some supporters given his average of one goal every three games or so, he is well suited to Sean Dycheā€™s system.

The strong interest from Newcastle, and now European giants Milan, highlights just what a talent the striker is. Everton would have preferred to keep him, but it does look like a sale is on the cards.

Milanā€™s interest can only be a good thing in that regard as it will help drive up his valuation. It is looking like a fee in the region of Ā£40million will be enough to snap him up.

That would more than help Evertonā€™s financial issues, but a replacement would also need to be found. Beyond Calvert-Lewin, there is nobody in the squad Dyche will trust to lead the like week in, week out.

If this deal does go through, the positive is that the business looks set to be concluded early in the window. The Toffees must then quickly move to bring in a replacement.
