Atalanta have verbally agreed a deal to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported via X on Thursday (27 June) that the Serie A side have agreed on a fee of Ā£8.4million plus add-ons to sign the 26-year-old.

Godfreyā€™s preference was a move to the Serie A, with his medical booked for this weekend as contract terms are finalised between the two clubs.

Romano finished his update by dropping the famous three words, ā€œHere we goā€.

Everton defender Ben Godfrey set to quit Goodison Park for Atalanta
This is a fantastic move for Godfrey.

It is no surprise that he was keen to secure a switch to Atalanta, where he will have the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League next season as a result of the clubā€™s UEFA Europa League victory.

Very few players would turn down the chance to play at the highest level of European competition while living in Italy.

It is therefore a favourable move for the player, and he will likely get much more game time with his new club.

And for Everton, this isnā€™t a bad bit of business either.

They need to raise funds this summer, and letting go of a player who made just 15 Premier League appearances last season in exchange for Ā£8.4million isnā€™t exactly the worst thing.

It is clear that this is a move which suits all parties, and it seems as if it is just a matter of time until the transfer is made official.
