Everton look to be closing in on their biggest sale of the summer transfer window so far.
Sean Dyche has already waved goodbye to a number of his players over recent weeks and now looks like he’s set to offload one of their biggest talents.
Ben Godfrey has been the noteworthy exit from Goodison Park this summer having jetted off to Italy to join Atalanta.
The Toffees were able avoid any PSR breaches last month after finding a way to balance the books through player sales.
And the Blues now look like they are going to receive a huge boost to their financial spreadsheets with the sale of a £50m player.
Amadou Onana agrees to join Aston Villa in £50m deal
Earlier today, it was claimed Onana had turned down the opportunity to make a move to Saudi Arabia on a three-year deal.
The report also suggested although Onana did not want to move to Saudi, he would be open to joining another Premier League side.
And that looks to be true with reports now stating Aston Villa are in the process of finalising a £50m deal with Everton to secure the midfielder’s services.
It is claimed personal terms have already been agreed and Unai Emery is keen to work with the Belgian.
Included in the report from David Ornstein is the terms which Lille hold over the sale of their former midfielder.
Any profit made on the Belgian will see Lille entitled to 20 per cent.
The Toffees bought Onana from the Ligue 1 side back in 2022 for a fee believed to be £33m.
Therefore, the French side will be expecting just over £3m if the sale is to go through between the two Premier League sides.
Everton will now need midfield reinforcement
Whether fans wanted Onana to stay or be sold, his looming departure highlights the need for extra cover in the Everton midfield this summer.
Youngster Tim Iroegbunam has been brought in from Villa earlier in the summer, but he does not arrive with the same level of experience in the top flight which Onana holds.
Of course, the 21-year-old could land at Goodison and surprise a few people, however, Dyche is likely going to expect some certainties in the midfield ahead of the new term starting.
A strong end to the season will have provided Everton fans with hope for what is to come but replacing one of their top players will surely now be a necessity.
