Everton shareholder Mike Parry has played down any suggestions of Gareth Southgate replacing Sean Dyche at Goodison Park.
Parry had a discussion on his X account on 15 July where he called for a change in manager of the Three Lions after the 2-1 defeat against Spain in the final of Euro 2024.
One fan cheekily suggested that the Toffees job could be the next role for Southgate, after being the talk of the town since the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
To which the club shareholder replied: “Get lost.”
Gareth Southgate would be an awful fit for Everton
Southgate would be an ill-suited fit for the club as his managerial style is more suited to international football where he has excelled, leading England to two major finals.
His tactical approach and man-management skills are tailored to managing a squad for short tournaments rather than the long-term, day-to-day demands of club management.
Moreover, Southgate’s lack of club experience is a significant drawback.
His only previous managerial role at a club was at Middlesbrough, where he was sacked after relegation.
This indicates a potential struggle to handle the pressures and expectations of a high-profile club like Everton.
In contrast, Dyche has proven his capabilities at Goodison Park, steering the club away from relegation and achieving a comfortable mid-table finish.
Dyche’s style of play and ability to galvanise the team are more in line with what’s needed and the board must back him to take the side to the next level.
