Everton star Jordan Pickford was once again in strong form for England in their Euro 2024 final defeat against Spain on Sunday 14 July.
Although he didn’t have much to do in the first half of the game, it was his second-half display that really caught the eye, especially with his save against Lamine Yamal.
The national media reacted to his performance with the Evening Standard reporter Dan Kilpatrick claiming that he “could not fault” the Everton man for the goals conceded.
“Twice saved brilliantly from teenager Yamal in the second half to keep England in the game. Could not fault him for either goal, which were the result of defensive lapses,” he wrote for the newspaper on 14 July.
Rob Draper wrote for The Guardian (14 July) “Superb distribution to set up equaliser. Not at fault for goals and potentially match-saving save from Lamine Yamal.”

Of all England’s players across the tournament, Pickford was arguably the one who deserved the Three Lions to take the trophy home the most.
His performances for Gareth Southgate’s men are always top-drawer and he always represents his country with more passion than anyone could ask for.
The Everton man was the only one of the Toffees’ players to make the final squad and throughout the tournament, he showed that he deserved his place in the team.
In fact, despite his evident quality when playing for both Everton and England, Wayne Rooney stated that he has been surprised at how important he has become.
With his form likely to continue from Euro 2024, he will be another key cog for Sean Dyche and his push to improve in the Premier League next season.
Especially since Dyche will be able to keep his man for at least the next season.
