Jonathan Rowe continues to be the name on every Leeds United supporter’s lips right now.
Rowe has been earmarked as Leeds’ top target to replace Crysencio Summerville with talks having been ongoing with Norwich City for a number of days now.
Reports on Monday suggested Leeds were preparing an opening offer of £7 million for the 21-year-old, but with that some way from Norwich’s valuation, a concrete bid is still yet to arrive from Leeds.
Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup was asked about Rowe in his press conference on Thursday afternoon, and certainly did not completely rule out the possibility of Rowe leaving before the end of the window.
However, Leeds certainly have plenty of work to do if they are to get it over the line, with Ligue 1 side Marseille now taking an interest, who could be difficult for Rowe to turn down.
Norwich journalist issues latest on Rowe future
Given it is now nearly a week since Summerville was officially confirmed as a West Ham United player, there is some frustration from supporters that his replacement was not ready to go.
However, for a player of Rowe’s calibre, a deal is always going to take time, particularly when Norwich are reportedly valuing him at around £15 million, which is a major fee for a Championship club to pay.
Following news of interest from Marseille this morning, Leeds fans have started to get itchy feet regarding a potential deal, with one putting the question to Pink Un journalist Connor Southwell as to why a bid hasn’t yet gone in.
Southwell claimed it is simply just standard football transfer negotiations, with the onus on Leeds to get closer to Norwich’s valuation in discussions.
He did also add, though, that there is some willingness on Norwich’s side to do a deal, which is why the two clubs ‘remain in dialogue’.
With all that said, it should at least offer some encouragement to Leeds fans that work is ongoing over bringing Rowe to the club.
Leeds have agreed Jesurun Rak-Sakyi deal
As talks continue over a deal for Rowe, Leeds have also been working on a different winger in the background – Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
Leeds are among a host of clubs keen on signing the 21-year-old this summer, and alongside Hull City and Sheffield United, have agreed terms with Palace.
The decision now rests at the door of Rak-Sakyi, though Sheffield United are believed to be the front-runners.
However, if Rak-Sakyi does indicate that he would like to move to Elland Road, it will be interesting to see what that means for Rowe.
