Bryan King would be surprised to see Jarrad Branthwaite move from Everton to Liverpool.

The ex-Goodison scout doesn’t believe it would be wise for the Toffees to allow that transfer to go through.

As reported via the Liverpool Echo (20 August), there has been no contact between the two clubs over a move for Branthwaite after surprising changes in betting odds which suggested a deal was on the cards.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t think many teams could afford the defender.

“He wouldn’t be the first player to make that move,” King said.

“Players have done it in the past, with success too. I wouldn’t have thought it would be an ideal move for Everton though.

Things have gone quiet with Manchester United, it is hard to see too many other teams affording him. This story will certainly get people talking but it would be very surprising to see that happen.

Liverpool to sign Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite?
It would certainly be a huge shock to see Branthwaite move to Anfield.

The mood around Goodison Park is already low but it would be at risk of becoming completely toxic if the Blues agreed to sell arguably their best player to their biggest rivals just days after the season started.

A big-money central defender doesn’t necessarily seem to be a priority for the Reds either, which makes this particular transfer even more unlikely.

The Toffees still need to raise finances, but there are certainly deals which can be sanctioned first before agreeing to sell Branthwaite to their Merseyside rivals.
