Nottingham Forest are not giving up in their pursuit of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez after reports suggested a third bid had been submitted for the Mexico international.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have enjoyed a positive start to the Premier League season after following up the opening day home draw with Bournemouth with a 1-0 win at Southampton on Saturday. Despite the presence of Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi with his squad, the Forest boss is still hoping to add another striker to his squad before the summer transfer window closes for business at 11pm on Friday night.
After seeing two previous offers rejected by the Eredivise giants, Forest are understood to have made a new bid to try and land a player that has scored 53 goals in 90 appearances for the Rotterdam club. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Forest have offered a £28m package and that would represent a club record sale for Feyenoord.
The 3AM verdict: Gimenez has proven his worth during his time with Feyenoord and certainly looks a handful for opposition defenders. Forest do need to add to their firepower over the final five days of the transfer window and clearly the Mexican in the man they want.
Toffees given warning over striker
Everton have been told they would not miss Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they opted to sell the striker before the end of the summer transfer window.
The 11-times capped England international has scored 68 goals in 249 appearances for the Toffees – but his impact has been limited by injuries in recent seasons. Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a number of clubs in recent seasons and was reportedly a target for Newcastle United earlier in the summer transfer window. Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has delivered a blunt opinion on the former Sheffield United academy product as the final days of the transfer window arrive.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Sean Dyche might look at it and if it’s the Calvert-Lewin that was seemingly a better player two or three years ago, then they would miss him. But if it’s the Calvert-Lewin of the last 18 months, no they wouldn’t miss him. He’s got to be more versatile as a player. I don’t know if he’s one of those players that is not durable enough. He never looks like he can play a lot of football to me Calvert-Lewin.”
The 3AM verdict: Calvert-Lewin can be a major asset for Everton when he is fit and it should be said he was able to make 38 appearances in all competitions last season and has started both of Everton’s Premier League appearances so far this season. However, as he enters the final year of his current contract, it does feel a decision over his future must be made.
Red Devils midfield close to Serie A move
Manchester United have reportedly agreed a £25.4m deal with Napoli that will see Scott McTominay join the Serie A club before the summer transfer window comes to an end later this week.
The Scotland international has been persistently linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent seasons after the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham United and Bayern Munich were all named as possible suitors. However, McTominay seemed to have forced his way into Erik ten Hag’s thinking during the second half of last season and he made a big impact in his side’s FA Cup Final win against Manchester City.
McTominay has featured as a substitute in both of United’s Premier League games so far this season but now looks set to make a move to Napoli after Sky Sports confirmed he will look to agree personal terms with the Serie A club over the coming days.
The 3AM Verdict: We have previously said in this column that McTominay is underrated and possibly a little under-appreciated at Old Trafford. A move to Napoli could well give him a chance to prove himself on a more consistent basis.
