Brendan Rodgers seems to have made some shrewd signing this summer for Celtic in the transfer window.
Adding seven new faces to the squad, the Celtic boss broke the clubs transfer record twice as he looked to strengthen the team for the season ahead.
Spending £11m on Arne Engels, £9.5m on Adam Idah and £6m on Auston Trusty grabbed all the headlines this summer but it seems that it’s the £1m signing of Luke McCowan that is impressing Livingston striker, Andrew Shinnie the most.
McCowan ‘will do great’ for Celtic
McCowan is living the dream of all Celtic fans. A Celtic supporter himself, the former Dundee captain signed for his boyhood club late on deadline day and has so far made two appearances for Brendan Rodgers.
And after his goal in the 2-0 win over Hearts and making his debut against Rangers, Shinnie believes that McCowan is proving people wrong already since making his big Parkhead move.
And when asked for his highlight of the weekend, Shinnie told The Scottish Football Podcast, “I was going to go for Luke McCowan scoring for Celtic. I was really happy for him because he’s a top player.
“And I think people sort of thought he wouldn’t get many minutes when he joined Celtic, so not written off, but thinking he’ll have midfielders ahead of him, but I think he’ll do great for Celtic.”
McCowan’s potential at Celtic
At 26, many people will think that at that age, a player’s potential is already realised but with Rodgers at Celtic, the supporters have already seen first-hand how the Irishman can improve players of all ages.
The Celtic support saw it with Scott Brown in Rodgers’ first spell at Celtic and they have witnessed again this time after the big improvements made in Matt O’Riley, Alistair Johnston and, of course, Callum McGregor this season.
Labelled as ‘one of the best’ players in the country, McCowan looks like he can go from strength to strength and continue to make a big contribution to Celtic’s pursuit of continued domestic dominance and improvements on the European stage.
