It was a sobering Tuesday night for Celtic after Borussia Dortmund hammered them 7-1 in the Champions League.
The Bhoys had won all nine matches at the start of their season ahead of the encounter but simply couldn’t cope with a ruthless home side within the pressure cooker that is Signal Iduna Park.
Unforced errors from Brendan Rodgers’ side littered the 90 minutes, and they were more often than not duly punished.
Five goals rained in during a horror show first half before Nuri Sahin’s outfit comfortably added two more in the second.

It was as difficult to watch for former striker Chris Sutton as it was for every supporter.
Speaking on social media, the pundit said at full-time: “Celtic wanted to go toe to toe. Good to be positive but there comes a time when you have to be a bit streetwise and understand levels.
“Throwing lots of bodies forward when you’re 7-1 down seemed a bit naive. A bit like Madrid, way too open and ruthlessly exploited.
Bitter night was difficult to take but plenty left for Celtic
Realistically it was always going to be difficult to win tonight. Yes, the nature of the performance hurts. Celtic could have done a lot more to better compete.
However, there are so many points left in this tournament that can still send the Bhoys through to the knockouts for the first time in over a decade.
The players will take a long hard look at what went wrong tonight. They shouldn’t shy away.
They have to pick up little lessons that they can use in upcoming matches against Atalanta and RB Leipzig.
As Sutton alludes to, the manager also has to acknowledge that the way Celtic were set-up tonight contributed to the heavy nature of the defeat. There was none of the resilience Rodgers suggested we would see tonight.
It’ll be very interesting to hear what he has to say about this one after showing so much belief in his players in the build-up.
