Celtic endured one of their most difficult nights in Europe when they were beaten 7-1 by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Kasper Schmeichel had a rather difficult game in between the sticks and his dad was in attendance to watch such a difficult match, including Karim Adeyemi scoring a first-half hat-trick.
Before the game, Adeyemi was highlighted as a danger to Celtic, especially given that he is one of the quickest players in Europe.
Yet, the Borussia Dortmund star had all the space in the world to run at and it felt like every time he had a shot at goal, he was wheeling away in celebration.
No matter what level you are playing at, conceding seven goals is morale-sapping of the highest order, especially when you feel that past issues are rearing its ugly head again.
Weeks before, Peter Schmeichel shared that he was going to be at the Dortmund and Celtic game to cheer his son on – he was working with American broadcaster, CBS.
After the game, the former Manchester United shot-stopper was tasked with doing interviews, including the man of the moment for Dortmund, Adeyemi, which wouldn’t have been easy.
Initially, the 22-year-old was talking straight to the CBS studios, but they had sound issues, so Schmeichel senior then had to step in.
As Peter took the mic, he looked at the Dortmund start and told him ‘I will never forgive you for what you did to my boy today’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/10/24 at 10:10 am).
Not all the goals were Kasper’s fault, but you feel, if Peter is honest with himself, Celtic‘s new number one will be kicking himself for giving away the penalty and also how he should have saved the third.
But then again, Kasper did save the Bhoys from further embarrassment because the opposition had 13 shots on target.

“I will never forgive you for what you did to my boy today,” Schmeichel told Adeyemi, who responded by saying ‘I am very sorry’.
Schmeichel added: “It was a really, really good day for you right from the beginning. You found that little pocket of space in between the centre-halves, and the left fullback, every time you had it, you nearly got a chance.
How do Celtic react?
It’s pretty simple, win, win and win. Whilst many will be frustrated by watching a repeat of what has happened in recent years, everything else has been going strong and it shouldn’t be forgotten.
Not only that, but the change in the Champions League format happened for a reason, so Rodgers will find that there are still winnable games in Europe coming up.

Even if Celtic pick up a point away at Atalanta after the international break, three games and four points would be seen as a positive, especially with two home matches following that.
The big problem, and it will continue to bug people, is the manner of defeats and the sense that no one is learning.
