Away from Celtic’s domestic and European games for a second, Steve Clarke announced his Scotland squad for the next round of Nations League fixtures this month.
Scotland will face Croatia at Hampden on the 15th of November and then face a trip to Poland on the 18th of November as Clarke looks to build on Scotland’s draw with Portugal last month.
Rooted to the bottom of their group, Clarke needs two wins from these next two games and yesterday, named the squad he believes will get him just that.
Scotland squad announcement snubs Celtic’s Luke McCowan
The good news for Celtic fans is that Steve Clarke has included Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor for the games against Portugal and Croatia.
Both players have proven to be reliable and whilst Taylor never got any minutes on the pitch in the last international break, Anthony Ralston was very good for Scotland in the draw with Cristiano Ronaldo’s team.
However, there was one glaring omission from Clarke’s squad and the Celtic fans let the Scotland boss know all about it.
Celtic fans fume at Luke McCowan’s Scotland snub
Despite making most of his appearances from the Celtic bench this season, Luke McCowan has proven that not only can he be a brilliant impact player, but he can also do a job if selected for the first team.
McCowan has also been impressing behind the scenes at Celtic and is showing signs of a player who can be a quality asset for both club and country.
But after this snub by Clarke, Celtic fans are in no doubt the national manager has made a mistake by not including McCowan in the upcoming Nations League clashes.
One Celtic fan had a different take and posted, “Good news. No chance of an injury.” whilst another said, “Ralston in but no McCowan is criminal. I get there is midfield cover but that’s a weird yin. Why is Shankland even there?”
One Celtic fan appears to have given up on Clarke, “Clarke’s a mystery to me. Which I have given up trying to unravel.” and another said simply, “Real strange.”
Another Celtic supporter said, “Where’s Luke McCowan surely he deserves a call-up?” and another said, “Lennon Miller & Luke McCowan are much more deserving of a place than Connor Barron.
Whatever happens in the next international break, one thing is clear, fan opinion is that McCowan should at least be in the squad for his Celtic performances but it looks like the 26-year-old is going to have to wait until March to get that call from Clarke.
