Celtic take on RB Leipzig on Tuesday night at Celtic Park, with the Germans hopeful to turn around their poor European form this season.
Leipzig are currently sitting 31st in the Champions League table having lost every game so far in this campaign.
It has been a mixed bag for the Glasgow side so far, however, as Celtic thrashed Slovan Bratislava 5-1 but it was a disappointment in Germany when Borussia Dortmund defeated the Hoops 7-1.
However, with Celtic holding Atalanta to a 0-0 away from home last time out, they may be quietly confident going into Tuesday night.
RB Leipzig and Celtic are no strangers to each other on the European stage, having played four times in the last six years. The Germans have had the better of their Glasgow counterparts however, winning three times, with Celtic only managing a sole victory.
Who will come out on top in this one remains to be seen, but RB Leipzig won’t be feeling too confident after a torrid weekend.
Castello Lukeba and Xavi Simons ruled out for RB Leipzig vs Celtic
After taking on Borussia Dortmund this weekend, the German side are set to be without Castello Lukeba, who picked up an injury in the fixture.
Marco Rose, Leipzig boss, said in his post-match interview: “He [Lukeba] picked up a thigh injury in training and we don’t want to take any risks or else we are talking about five or six weeks out.
“I therefore don’t think it’s very likely that he will play against Celtic.”
Lukeba is one of Europe’s most highly-rated defenders, wanted by the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Liverpool, so will be a miss for Leipzig.
Alongside this, Dutch prodigy wonderkid Xavi Simons has also been out for some time, but more recently has undergone surgery, ruling him out of the Celtic game, and until at least 2025, as per The Athletic.
RB Leipzig lost for first time in Bundesliga this weekend
The third sucker punch came in the form of their first loss in the Bundesliga this weekend, with Dortmund prevailing 2-1.
The defeat means RB can no longer go undefeated in the German first division, and now sit three points off first place Bayern Munich.
Do Celtic still have a chance in the Champions League this season?
Celtic haven’t progressed to the knockout rounds of the Champions League since their 5-0 aggregate defeat to Juventus back in 2013.
Celtic appear to be more optimistic about the competition’s new format, hoping that the club may at least reach the preliminary play-off round, with both Club Brugge and Young Boys being winnable home that are still to come
A win on Tuesday however, would put Celtic in a fantastic position for progression and would put RB Leipzig in a real worrying situation regarding their Champions League hopes.
