Odin Thiago Holm has been in a difficult spot for Celtic this season.
The young Norwegian talent arrived at the club with lots of promise and potential from Valerenga last year.
Holm, 21, was a £2.6million signing for the club but he has only played 16 times for the first-team with his only goal coming against Buckie Thistle in last season’s Scottish Cup.
Manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear to the midfielder back in pre-season that he needed hard work from the youngster as talent, at Parkhead, will only ever take you so far.
The Northern Irishman included Bosun Lawal in that warning back in July who has since left the club for Stoke City.
There has been somewhat of a mystery surrounding Holm, however, after the player was the only senior member of the squad to be left out of the Champions League picks.
Then eagle-eyed supporters spotted no sign of the young man during the club’s 2024/25 squad photo taken at Lennoxtown earlier this season.
Odin Thiago Holm has been out injured with calf issues for some time
He did feature early doors in three matches against Kilmarnock, Hibs and St Mirren respectively but Holm has been out of the picture – literally – since.
Now, though, Rodgers has finally namechecked the playmaker and attempted to shed some light on his predicament in Glasgow.
The Norwegian has been nursing injury to his calves, according to the manager, who addressed the media ahead of this evening’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final clash at Hampden against fellow high-fliers Aberdeen.
The Dons have matched the Hoops all the way in the Scottish Premiership so far this season and will hope to do damage to their Treble hopes with a result at the national stadium today.
Celtic injury and fitness update ahead of Premier Sports Cup semi-final vs Aberdeen
Rodgers, though, took the time to explain to the press that Holm has been out of action and sidelined due to injury problems.
Asked about squad fitness, he said: “We are in a really good place. Everyone is fit and healthy. We’ve only got one in Odin who’s been out for a little while with his calves.
“But other than that, I’m really happy that we’ve managed to get through into this period now in a really healthy way. So, all fine fitness wise.
