Every Celtic fan knows the club is cash-rich after the most recent set of accounts were published in the summer.
At the time, Peter Lawwell shared how Celtic have £77.2m in the bank after the Bhoys recorded a record turnover of £124.6m in last year’s accounts.
That allowed Brendan Rodgers to invest in the Celtic squad this summer as the Hoops boss spent £11.5m on Arne Engels and £8.5m on Adam Idah.
Many Celtic fans still believe more money should have been spent considering the massive cash reserves the club has.
And at Celtic’s 2024 AGM, finance officer Chris McKay clearly explains how the club plans to use the money moving forward.
Celtic’s financial position helps protect ‘marquee players’
McKay said via The Scottish Sun, “The difference between the Champions League and the Europa League has never been more stark.
“That is evident if you look at a set of accounts with a Europa League participating team and a set of accounts with a Champions League participating team.
“Eight games is good for us and that jeopardy further into the league phase also introduces an additional dynamic as well.
It [cash in the bank] gives us the flexibility throughout transfer windows to invest when we need to invest.
“And secondly it allows us to run the business normally if we are in the Europa League for a period of time.
“The cash won’t last forever but what it gives us is runway. You can run your business under normal operating conditions without having to sell marquee players and allows you to invest in the squad at the same time.”

Whilst Celtic are going strong on both the domestic and European front, there is no doubt that there is still investment required by Brendan Rodgers to strengthen the team.
With only two recognised strikers, the Celtic boss must look to add another body up top in case of injury to either Adam Idah or Kyogo Furuhashi.
The left-back area needs to be looked at with Celtic defender Greg Taylor out of contract at the end of the season and Alex Valle due to return to Barcelona soon.
With Luis Palma and Hyunjun Yang clearly not good enough to hold down a starting spot, the wing area needs a fresh injection of talent if only to push Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn or to offer cover if either gets injured.
Whilst Celtic supporters understand the need to protect the club from a financial point of view, many will still be of the thought that to make money, you need to spend money and that has never been more evident this season as Celtic enjoy some success in the Champions League.
