It was a great weekend for Celtic fans as they watched their team open up a three-point gap from Aberdeen and an eleven-point gap from Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic’s weekend was made up by Aberdeen and Rangers both dropping points as Jimmy Thelin’s men capitulated at St Mirren to a 2-1 defeat and Philippe Clement’s side could only manage a 1-1 draw with Dundee United at Ibrox.
That meant all Celtic had to do was beat Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday night to open up a gap at the top of the table and that is exactly what Brendan Rodgers’ team did.
Celtic beat Hearts 4-1 to continue their unbeaten start to the season and that result, coupled with Rangers’ draw at Ibrox has left Ally McCoist completely heartbroken.

Speaking about the weekend results, Jeff Stelling asked McCoist if he thought Rangers would pull the trigger on Clement after Celtic stretched their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
McCoist said on talkSPORT, “It won’t happen. Jeff. I don’t think the club is in a financial place to do that anyway, but it’s been poor.
“The boys were at the game. I didn’t make the game on Saturday. The boys said it was really, really poor. Miles off it.
“It’s going to be a struggle to finish second this year. A cup final coming up against Celtic. League Cup final against Celtic who again, had another great result over the weekend.
So to answer your question it won’t happen for a number of reasons, Jeff, and I think the first one being, I don’t think they can afford to. They’ve not got any money to pay people off and things like that.
“So it’s going to be a long, long period to be brutally honest.”
Ally McCoist admits ‘sadly’ Rangers are not catching Celtic this season
McCoist goes on further to admit that it breaks his heart to admit that Rangers have no chance of catching Celtic this season.
“We’ve got the cup final and I’m going to Nice to watch Rangers on Thursday,” continued McCoist, “I think the uncertainty above him hasn’t helped him, there’s no doubt about it.
“Yes, of course, results also haven’t been good enough. I get that totally but at this moment in time, I think there’s going to be news breaking later today regarding changes in the board and changes in personnel above him, which is long overdue.
“So hopefully that will come, which will hopefully give them a little bit of stability and they can turn things around a bit
“But they ain’t catching Celtic this season sadly and it breaks my heart, as you know to say that.
Celtic have to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on the 4th of December. A win up north would effectively end Jimmy Thelin’s hopes of keeping up with the Bhoys this season as The Dons simply don’t have the personnel to do so.
A trip to Ibrox on the 2nd of January faces Celtic as well and if Brendan Rodgers can negotiate another away win in Glasgow’s south side, assuming Rangers win all their games as do Celtic then a 14-point gap would open up.
Even the most passionate Rangers fan, like McCoist, would concede their league title bid would be over and Celtic would be on their way to winning their fourth title in a row.
