Celtic’s win over Hearts really was a game of two halves as Brendan Rodgers opened up a gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership at the weekend.
Results in Rangers and Aberdeen’s fixtures went Celtic’s way on Saturday and the Hoops boss ensured that his team capitalised on it after a blistering second-half performance where the Bhoys blew Hearts away in Tynecastle.
Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah stole the Celtic headlines after the German winger’s stunning goal and the Irishman’s double helped sink Hearts.
But it was neither of those Celtic players Martin O’Neill referred to as he picked out one Hoops hero for being ‘blindingly good’ in the win against Hearts.
Martin O’Neill believes Kyogo Furuhashi’s Hearts goal was Celtic’s ‘most important’
O’Neill was on punditry duty at the weekend and the former Celtic boss was in fine form as he cast his eye over Brendan Rodgers’ team’s performance in Tynecastle.
And it was Kyogo Furuhashi who was on the legendary ex-Celtic boss’ mind after the Japanese striker opened the scoring in the 4-1 win over Hearts.
O’Neill told Sky Sports, “It sounds strange now but really this was the most important goal because it breaks the deadlock for them.
“And Kyogo, you always will fancy him. He had a little chance earlier on and didn’t take it and Gordon had a really great save and here he makes up for it.
That’s a woeful clearance by any stretch of the imagination, reminds me of me, but really, he’s on hand to score.
“And you just feel as if he would never really miss that one, but he is blindingly good. Running off centre halves is his forte and he can finish.”

O’Neill was brilliant on punditry duty on Sky Sports and gave an honest account of how he saw Celtic’s win over Hearts at Tynecastle.
Not only that, but O’Neill also said Rangers and Aberdeen dropping points was ‘really terrific’ for Celtic before the Tynecastle result took place.
The former Hoops boss also took John Roberston’s view on Celtic’s penalty apart after the former Hearts man said that it was a ‘soft’ award.
And as a side note, as well as calling Kyogo ‘blindingly good’ O’Neill also said the Celtic striker is ‘as good as anyone since Henrik [Larsson]‘
O’Neill is a superb pundit with great insight into the game as well as having some great one-liners to keep pundits in check and Celtic fans amused.
