Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has become the recipient of a robust defence from Chris Sutton after his job security was questioned by Michael Brown.
Over the weekend, the Bhoys’ convincing win over Hearts wasn’t the only comprehensive triumph claimed at a difficult away venue.
Inflicting a fifth successive defeat on Manchester City, Ange Postecoglou has lifted Tottenham Hotspur to within three points off the Premier League top four despite an erratic start to the campaign on the results front.
Celtic fans know all too well where his unique methods can lead. The Australian took the Bhoys to five trophies in two years during his spell at Parkhead, including a magnificent Treble in 2022/23.
Nevertheless, he still has his doubters south of the border, who Chris Sutton has been swift to shut down live on the airwaves.
Chris Sutton firmly dismisses Ange Posteclgou scepticism
Speaking on Football Daily, Sutton and pundit Michael Brown engaged in an intriguing discussion surrounding the job Postecoglou has done at Tottenham so far, and it is fair to say both had differing opinions on the former Celtic boss.
Kicking off, Brown said: “It was an amazing result under pressure, the manager has been starting to get a few questions.
To which, Sutton replied: “What do you mean under pressure though Mike? Under pressure for what, the sack?
Brown: “You go to that stadium, you speak to all the people around it, (they’re) all there when we do certain games and just little rumblings were starting about the way he does things the way he approaches, the way he addresses the players people are saying that.
Sutton: “Who is saying it?”
Brown: “The pressure is going to start to increase, and it was.” Sutton protests his claims before Brown continues, stating: “And it was, it was a big performance, but it was increasing.”
Sutton: “Nonsense! How do you know that?”
Brown: “They’ve got to deliver this trophy; the Spurs supporters need him to finish in that top four and they want a trophy.”
Sutton: “So hang on a minute, this is a Tottenham team who haven’t delivered a trophy for however many years and all of a sudden, Postecoglou is under all this extreme pressure to deliver a trophy?”
Brown: “I know your feelings towards Ange Postecoglou, we know that Chris, we know the relationship. I’m not saying that is me Chris and you know that, I’m just telling you what is rumbling, that’s what I’m telling you.”
Sutton: “Under pressure sounds like that he is a step or two away from the sack, that is absolute nonsense.”

Diverting back to planet Celtic, there is no doubt it took a while to shake off the post-Postecoglou blues as Brendan Rodgers imprinted his style last term, but he has certainly cracked the code now!
The Bhoys have seven points from their opening four Champions League fixtures heading into their clash against Club Brugge tomorrow night. Meanwhile, they sit three points ahead of Aberdeen and 11 in front of Rangers when looking at the Scottish Premiership standings.
Next month, a Premier Sports Cup final against Rangers also awaits for the Bhoys, with Rodgers determined to build on his domestic double last season by adding another trophy at Hampden.
Postecoglou will forever be an iconic Celtic manager, but the man in charge right now is the one supporters are fixated on.
