Celtic went into today knowing that a victory over Ross County would open up a healthy five-point gap over Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings.
Following an excellent start and early pressure, Liam Scales rose highest to power the hosts into an early lead following a corner from Luke McCowan, who went on to be a central figure during proceedings.
After 17 minutes without a goal, the Irish defender turned provider for his counterpart, lofting a brilliant ball over the top that McCowan caressed with one touch before his strike deflected past Ross Laidlaw.
Paulo Bernardo got in on the act with ten to spare until the interval, converting from close range after capitalising on the break of the ball in the aftermath of Daizen Maeda’s centre.
In trademark fashion, Callum McGregor wound one up from long range that nestled beyond the helpless visiting goalkeeper before Adam Idah sent the Celts into a five-goal lead with a piece of skill and a swirling effort that would be fit to cap any match.
Come the second half, Celtic understandably took their foot off the gas but still could’ve left a further dent ON Ross County as their relentless pressing and chance-creation continued.
All in all, another superb day was recorded as the home support make their journey home delighted. Here’s how the players rated on a special afternoon for all involved.
Kasper Schmeichel – 7
Didn’t really have anything to do, dealt with a few firm passes back in typically nonchalant fashion to help set up attacks via his clean distribution.
Alistair Johnston – 7
Could’ve really been rated higher, but giving everyone a ten would be counterproductive. Energetic up and down the flank and strong in the tackle.
Cameron Carter-Vickers – 8
Any notion of Carter-Vickers losing confidence after his own goal in the week was swiftly put to bed as he embodied the picture of composure at the back.
Liam Scales – 9
Utterly dominant. He played like a man who knows he has a fight on his hands for a position, took his goal expertly and lofted through a pass to McCowan that could be a contender for assist of the season.
Alex Valle – 8
The Barcelona loanee added a willingness to go forward and an athletic presence on the left-hand side. You get the feeling he will continue growing into the jersey over coming months.
Callum McGregor – 8
The conductor of the orchestra on the day. Helped to set the bar and demonstrated his capability to get in on the act with another wonderful strike.
Paulo Bernardo – 8.5
Reminded everyone why he deserves a place in this side. Got on the scoresheet and was everywhere in the engine room. Brilliant from the Portuguese midfielder.
Luke McCowan – 10
Not allowed to give anyone a ten? Nonsense. Luke McCowan came away with a goal and three assists for himself today, putting on an incredible showing that has furthered his case for future involvement; not bad for ÂŁ1 million!
Daizen Maeda – 7
Another positive display after his goal in midweek. Got plenty of joy down the left before being replaced by Hyunjun Yang at half-time.
James Forrest – 7.5
No goals or assists for the one-club man, but he was in fine form and showed he can still burst past his marker to create openings for his teammates.
Adam Idah – 8
A bullet of a strike and some lovely touches from the Irishman. Led the line with distinction and can be proud of his display.
Hyunjun Yang (sub) – 6
Looked lively, took on his marker well and made an impression off the bench.
Arne Engels (sub) – 5
Kept things ticking along nicely in midfield albeit did nothing spectacular.
Anthony Ralston (sub) – 5
Got a runout and was solid while on the field.

Came into proceedings when the game was already done, enjoyed an easy afternoon.
