Celtic’s win over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership stunned not only the supporters but pundits and former players as well.
In fact, so good was the win that the Croatian media waxed lyrical about Celtic’s win ahead of the big Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb.
Goals from Liam Scales, Luke McCowan, Callum McGregor, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah capped an incredible first-half performance by Brendan Rodgers’ side as Celtic banked all three points with a full second half to spare.
However, Pat Bonner was left stunned by the performance as he shared what surprised him most about Celtic’s win over Don Cowie’s team.
What amazed Pat Bonner about Celtic’s win over Ross County
Bonner told BBC Radio Scotland, “The big surprise was it didn’t add to their score line in the second half, they made chances.
“They hit the crossbar post, and the goalkeeper had two or three very, very good saves. So they created chances, but they weren’t able to put them away,.
“But that first half just blew Ross County away. They had no answer. And it’s been a, been a really good day for Celtic and they’ve got all the players that they want match time getting them on the pitch.
“He [Brendan Rodgers] started with six changes, then he introduced subs, so he’s had about 16 players all getting game time today.
Pat Bonner states what Ross County will be ‘positive’ about after Celtic beating
There can’t be too many positives for Don Cowie to take back up to Dingwall from the Celtic Park mauling but Bonner reckons that what Ross County did in the second half will please The Staggies manager.
“And yeah, second half, it was always going to drop off a little bit,” continued Bonner, “They kept the ball well. They were never under threat. I think Ross County had what, one shot on target.
“But it was always difficult coming here, no matter who you are, coming here this moment time. The way the Celtic are playing, with the energy, with a high tempo, with the passing very, very difficult for any team.
“So Celtic are in a really high point at the moment. Ross County will put this to bed. They will move on from it and probably look at the second half as maybe a little bit more positive that they were actually able to hold Celtic 0-0.
With Celtic looking forward to a trip to Aberdeen tomorrow, Brendan Rodgers will undoubtedly be looking for a repeat of that Parkhead first 45 minutes.
With the games coming thick and fast for the Parkhead club, tomorrow is not a time to be resting key players.
Get the win, get on the bus and get back to Glasgow with the points with the strongest team possible. If Celtic can do that and other results go their way, then the defence of the title will have taken a very sharp and positive step.
