The winter transfer window re-opens next month and Lennon Miller is a name that has been doing the rounds of late.
Miller is thriving at Motherwell colours and there is a suggestion that the 18-year-old could be on the move.
There isn’t anyone better to speak about his situation than his dad – Lee Miller – who enjoyed a great career in Scotland’s top-tier during the noughties.
Lennon Miller was at Celtic when he was six
Given that the Motherwell star has football in his blood, then it shouldn’t be a surprise that he was kicking a ball as soon as he could.
Miller’s dad shared that when his son was six, he was at Celtic, but admitted that he ‘didn’t enjoy it’ because he wanted to play for the Boys Club.
That road then led him to be scouted by Motherwell and the rest is now history, as Miller senior told the Warm Up.
“It has always been the plan (play a lot of games then see what’s next),” shared Miller about his son. “Lennon, when he was six was in at Celtic. Went through the pathway of six-week blocks. He was kept on.
“Then he got to the stage where he wasn’t really enjoying it, for whatever reason. He just wanted to play Boys Club. Took him back into Boys Club, then got scouted for Motherwell. Enjoyed the Boys Club feel, but good coaching. Then went from strength to strength. It was always a clear pathway. I know people say it’s a thing to talk about, but there has been a clear pathway for him.
“I startred at Falkirk. Made my way through. Played a lot of games in the first team and then kicked on from there. He is doing the same thing. It’s not one size fits all.
Miller’s future amid Celtic interest
Celtic might have an interest in Miller, but there are other clubs in that conversation too, especially those in Italy.
What’s interesting here is that several Scottish players, especially midfield players – Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour and Lewis Ferguson – to name a few are now thriving in Serie A.
Lennon’s dad was asked about his son’s future and he admitted that he expects him to move sooner rather than later.
“I think it is different times, in terms of that, especially Italy,” shared Miller on Serie A taking in Scottish players.
“Italy are looking at Scottish players, especially midfielders just now. For whatever reason, they are getting them across there and actually playing, which is a really good option.
“My advice to Lennon is that ‘you need to be playing’. His next move is so important to play and develop again. He doesn’t want to go and play in the U23s and then have to build himself. He is a first-team player now. People are respecting him for that. His teammates are respecting him for that. It is a difficult one. He loves playing. He is loving playing for Motherwell and being there just now. But it will eventually come where he has to go and further his career.
