Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson thinks Celtic midfielder Luke McCowan is ‘more than capable’ of putting himself in contention to become a starter under Rodgers.
He explained: “I think he’s made an impact already; I know he’s not played as much as he would probably like, but when he has played whether that’s from the start or come off the bench, he’s certainly shown that he’s more than capable to play for a club like Celtic.
As I mentioned, every time I watched him last year he stood out like a sore thumb for Dundee, so there was no surprise that he made that move. I quite like those kind of stories where he’s been in the lower leagues, and he’s worked hard to get a move up to Dundee, and then he’s produced the goods.
He’s got his dream move because he’s a Celtic supporter isn’t he? I think he’s done really well and he’s shown he’s more than capable of starting.”
Luke McCowan unlucky not to receive more Celtic minutes
Between being cup-tied last weekend and having stiff competition to deal with in midfield, McCowan can count himself unlucky not to have featured more for Celtic since joining in the summer.
Nevertheless, his contribution when on the field can’t be faulted, with three goals and a trio of assists in 13 appearances.
With the festive period in full swing, it feels like only a matter of time before supporters see him on the pitch more frequently.
