Celtic have reportedly turfed out a £3.5million move for Alexandro Bernabei.

The outcast left-back has been on loan at Internacional and the Brazilian club were hopeful of keeping him.

Bernabei has had a terrific stint with the club and was named in the Serie A team of the year for his performance.

Palmeiras also wanted the 24-year-old should Internacional fail to land him so they sent their sporting director, Andre Mazzucco, to Glasgow in an effort to have their personal touch reach an agreement.

Now, though, The Celtic Way are reporting that Celts have knocked back their offer of less than the Hoops paid in 2022 for Bernabei of around £3.75m.

It is claimed Mazzucco is still in the city as he hopes to conclude a deal before he departs.

Celtic are believed to want closer to £5m having previously discussed an initial fee of around £7m before being talked down.

Internacional have cash to spend in the January transfer window having only recently sold their midfield talent, Gabriel Carvalho, to Al Qadisiyah in Saudi for a staggering £18m fee.

And they have prioritised Bernabei as their target at left-back.

Negotiations, TCW claim, are still underway.

Bernabei chipped in with six assists and three goals from just 23 outings with his loan club and showed plenty to work with and that is why he is now a man in demand.

We told you how Brendan Rodgers has already addressed the Argentina international hopeful’s future at Celtic as he acknowledged a move might well be in the offing this month.

What Brendan Rodgers has said about Bernabei’s future
“I think it’s great that he’s gone away and done well and sometimes you just find that,” he said.

“I think he’d been here for a period of time it hadn’t worked out as probably what he or the club would have wanted and sometimes that happens you go away, you go back into a different culture or a different life and back into obviously South America for him and the reports that I hear is that he’s done well.

“But there’s nothing more to add than that. He’ll finish his spell there and then we’ll look at that and see where that’s at come January.
