Brendan Rodgers has got a lot of Celtic fans talking.
When Celtic were beaten by Rangers last Thursday, you would have thought that the drama would have proceeded that fixture given that it was a horror performance by the team.
But, in fact, the main headlines came after Celtic’s routine win over St Mirren on Sunday which saw the champions extend their lead at the top of the Premiership table to 13 points.
The January transfer window is open and fans are eager to know who they will sign this month, even with things going well, it’s always good to strengthen when you are on top.
The name of Kieran Tierney has been doing the rounds, as he is expected to leave Arsenal this month and Celtic want to bring him back to where it all began.
But post-St Mirren, Rodgers wasn’t happy with Celtic fans singing Tierney’s name because he felt it was disrespectful towards Greg Taylor.
That has sparked a debate as to whether the Irishman is correct in calling out the supporters and Simon Jordan has weighed in on it all with some interesting comments.
Simon Jordan reminds Brendan Rodgers he left Celtic in 2019 for Leicester City
When Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester City in 2019, it made him public enemy number one with the fans and only now has he been forgiven.
Jordan stated that it will be ‘interesting’ to see if Rodgers now re-signs Tierney given his strong stance, as he told talkSPORT (06/01/25 at 12:45 pm).
And the former Crystal Palace owner also reminded Rodgers of his previous actions when he ‘buggered off’ midway through Celtic’s trophy-winning campaign when it ‘suited him best to go’.
“It will be interesting to see if Brendan does bring him back,” said Jordan. “The lecture he has just given to the Celtic fans would be superseded by his actions.
“This is the Brendan Rodgers that buggered off in the middle of the season when it suited him best to go to Leicester and left Celtic in a middle of a trophy-winning season, yeah?!”
Further signs that Kieran Tierney will leave Arsenal amid Celtic interest
Tierney returned from injury last month when he played over an hour for Arsenal against Crystal Palace in the quarter-final of the League Cup.
But, since then, he hasn’t played a single minute, including remaining on the bench as Arsenal were beaten by Newcastle United in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash on Tuesday night.
Surely, this indicates that Tierney will be leaving Arsenal sooner than later because he is fit again, but isn’t getting the minutes that he desires.
But saying that, Arteta was pretty blunt about the Scotland international in his latest comments about the player.
“There is absolutely no news, Kieran is our player,” responded Arteta to his pre-match Arsenal press conference against Newcastle.
