The 21-year-old appears ready to be the first signing of the second David Moyes era at Goodison Park after he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract on Saturday (11 January).
However, with Thelwell’s future far from secure, he could be set to make a grave error and put the final nail in his coffin on Merseyside.

Moyes is facing a monumental task upon his return to Merseyside – he takes over the second-lowest goalscorers in the division with only a point gap to the relegation zone.
Furthermore, the squad is disjointed after a massively underwhelming period under Sean Dyche, who also wanted to sign Nuamah last summer and may be relieved the move fell through.
The Ghanaian international has failed to register a single contribution for Lyon in Ligue 1 this term, and his attempts to leave France now screams desperation.
There will be plenty of opportunities to bolster the squad this month as Moyes looks to put his stamp on the current Everton setup, with three new faces mooted to join him at Goodison Park.
Nuamah may have been a good idea in the summer, but now, a transfer would be career suicide for Thelwell at Goodison.
