Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke found it difficult to enjoy regular playing time under Brendan Rodgers last season, with 576 minutes from 10 matches.
Last summer, Celtic allowed the 24-year-old to join FC Twente on a season-long loan deal. The centre-back initially took time to get in to manager Joseph Oosting’s starting lineup and has started to cement his place since November.
The Celtic owned player has made 20 appearances for the Dutch club and scored his first Eredivisie goal against SC Heerenveen at the weekend.
According to Twente Inside, the defender is being criticised despite the ‘strong performance’. He was rated 7.6/10 by fans and 7/10 by Voetbal International for his display against SC Heerenveen.
Journalist Timen van Wissing analysed Lagerbielke for Oosttribune and Twente Inside have relayed his comments. He was impressed with the Celtic man’s form in the last league tie, while has also pointed an area of improvement.
“I thought Lagerbielke was very good against Heerenveen. At the corner kick, [Twente’s Michel] Vlap should just stay away from the ball. If Lagerbielke just coaches him, Vlap doesn’t extend that ball and there’s nothing wrong,” he said.
The journalist points out an example of the Sweden international’s lack of communication with Twente goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall.
“I’ve been noticing this with him for weeks. I do think he’s getting better. He’s just really good,” Van Wissing explained.
“But in the communication, even against Go Ahead he gives away a corner kick, when Unnerstall shouts. Those two just have no communication with each other. That really needs to improve.”
Brendan Rodgers’ side have a decision to make over Lagerbielke’s future at the end of this season.
