Celtic increased their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 16 points after beating Dundee United on Saturday.
Goals from Callum McGregor, Jota and Adam Idah were enough to beat Dundee United at Celtic Park to widen the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to Rangers by 16 points.
Celtic looks on course to add another Scottish title to their trophy haul as Brendan Rodgers’ side continues their relentless defence of the league with their 22nd win of the season against the Taysiders.
However, despite the huge gap Celtic have to Rangers, the Hoops manager has rejected a suggestion that the pressure is off his side as they head into the final stages of the season.
Brendan Rodgers hails Celtic’s will to win after beating Dundee United
Fielding questions from a BBC journalist, it was put to Rodgers that with just 12 games to go and the gap at the top of the table at 16 points, the pressure was off Celtic prior to the Dundee United fixture.
Rodgers said on the Scottish Football Podcast [1h 7m 40s], “No, no, not really because we want to win every game.
“If you don’t do your work and you look for an easy game, that’s when you can come unstuck against a Dundee United team that has been fantastic this season.
“Really well organised, work hard, so we knew that we had to play at a good level today to get the result.
Brendan Rodgers’ message to his Celtic players ahead of Champions League tie vs Bayern Munich
With the Champions League up next for Celtic, Rodgers believes the performance and result against Jim Goodwin’s side will help build belief in his team prior to heading to Bayern Munich.
“Yeah, well, just confidence,” continued Rodgers, “I think we’ll be able to recover some players today, get some game time in players.
“And yeah, we arrive into that game, we had to do our job and stay focused today. Now we can recover and get ready for an exciting game on Tuesday.
Brendan Rodgers has always spoken about his team remaining focused on the game ahead and the Celtic manager has previously hit back at previous suggestions that his team are always looking a game ahead whenever the Champions League fixtures come up.
But for now, Rodgers will be looking ahead to Bayern Munich and hoping that Celtic can pull off another memorable night in Europe’s top competition with a win in Germany to try and overturn the Parkhead loss and qualify for the last 16 of the tournament.
