Celtic have been dominant over Rangers for almost 25 years now.

Take a look at Celtic’s trophy history, it’s littered with doubles, trebles, a Quadruple Treble and after this season is over, Brendan Rodgers could have added another three trophies to the Parkhead club’s trophy count.

Celitc’s win over Dundee United increased the gap in the Scottish Premiership table to 16 points, although Rangers have a game in hand.

With a superior goal difference of +32 on the Ibrox club, that gap is effectively 17 points as the Celtic manager heads into the Hoops’ final 12 fixtures of the season.

But it wasn’t just the gap at the top of the table that BBC pundit Michael Stewart sent Celtic’s rivals a warning over the gap to the Parkhead club. In fact, Stewart took the debate back to 2012 to send Rangers ‘some uncomfortable truths’ about just how far ahead the Bhoys are to the Ibrox club.

Michael Stewart’s ‘bigger debate’ on the gap between Celtic & Rangers
With Celtic wrapping up another tonne of Champions League cash, Stewart believes there is a ‘bigger debate’ to be had about Rangers trying to catch the Hoops both on and off the field.

Stewart told the Scottish Football Podcast [55m 09s], “You see, the important thing, and it is a much bigger debate, right, that there are some uncomfortable truths in amongst all this, that Celtic have a turnover that’s far superior, they have money in the bank. How do you bridge that gap?

“Well, Rangers spent money from loans, from directors to try and bridge it and they won the title. But these things are not sustainable, hence why they’re trying to cut a budget now.

Michael Stewart goes ‘back to 2012′ to discuss Celtic and Rangers’ financial gap
“And you want to go even deeper,” continued Stewart, “You go back to 2012, [Rangers], when starting in the bottom division, how do you build it on sustainable solid foundations?

“And they didn’t, and every time since it’s like they’re trying to play catch up. And the uncomfortable truth is now that you’re trying to bridge a gap against an opponent who is in such a strong financial position.

“So even when Rangers won the league, it wasn’t in a sustainable way and that’s the difficulty.

How many trophies Celtic have won vs Rangers since 2000
Celtic are officially Scotland’s most successful club. Sitting on 119 trophies and counting, just how far ahead are the Bhoys on the pitch compared to Rangers?

Celtic’s trophy history since 2000
18 Scottish Premiership titles
12 Scottish Cups
12 Scottish League Cups
Rangers’ trophy history since 2000 leaves Ibrox club trailing in Celtic’s wake
Six Scottish Premiership titles
Six Scottish Cups
Seven Scottish League Cups
With a trophy history far superior to Rangers’ this century, what cannot be denied is that Celtic are miles ahead of their rivals not just off the pitch, but also on it.
