Kasper Schmeichel will get the chance to win his 112th and 113th international cap in this break as the Celtic ‘keeper’s impressive form continues to catch the eye of Denmark boss Brian Riemer.
But on top of that, the 39-year-old has been given the opportunity to lead his country as captain as Riemer explains why Schmeichel was the perfect choice to wear the armband ahead of Man United’s Christian Erikson.

Speaking ahead of Denmark’s double-header with Portugal, Riemer said that the Celtic goalkeeper was an ‘important’ choice to wear the captain’s armband.
Riemer told BT, “Regarding the two matches to be played, it was important for me to choose a player who would be 100 per cent certain to play both matches.
“That’s why it makes the most sense that Kasper (Schmeichel) wears the armband this time. I think he has a lot to give to the young people.”

Schmeichel has settled into life at Celtic Park seamlessly since his summer move last year.
With his first trophy already under his belt when Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final, Schmeichel is also on the verge of winning a historic treble.
