At the age of 18, Miller has the world at his feet and he isn’t shying away from wanting to continue his climb to the top.
“I’m obviously not going to go in and be the best player there, but I believe I could maybe in a couple of months be the best player there,” those were the words echoed by Miller, as he entered the Scotland scene.
But, McGinn, who will be fighting for a place with the teenager, has suggested the Motherwell star might regret those comments, as he told his Scotland press conference.
“He’s probably thinking – why did I say that? But I said plenty of stupid things when I was coming through at St Mirren,” said McGinn.
“Also, at the same time, they aren’t here to make the numbers up. They are here to take our places, if they are eventually better than the ones that are here.
“We no longer get called up. They need to have that confidence and they need to, not just make the numbers up, but try to get a starting position and then become a mainstay for years to come.
“He definitely has the ability to do so and so does James (Wilson).
McGinn on what he is being told about Miller’s talents amid Celtic links
After Celtic’s Glasgow derby defeat over the weekend and the team’s performance without the injured Callum McGregor, the calls to boost the midfield will only increase.
More supporters will want Celtic to sign Miller and he is a player who has been making some noises for a while now, even though he is 19 in August.
John McGinn’s brother, Paul, plays for Motherwell, so the Aston Villa captain has heard first-hand just what Miller is like.
“Aye, I knew it was coming at some point,” said McGinn about Miller’s Scotland call-up. “Obviously, I watch Motherwell pretty regularly and as much as I can.
“Paul (John’s brother) always spoke about him highly from a young age. But, not only that, his mentality, a good teammate and very mature, so, obviously been really keen to play alongside him and see him this week in training. Paul doesn’t speak anything, but highly of him.
“Even sat at lunch there, he is a quiet guy, but desperate to succeed and work hard.
