Celtic have had a number of players who have excelled this season.

However, Celtic legend Murdo MacLeod is in no doubt who he thinks would pick up the end-of-year accolade and has told the Hoops manager in no uncertain terms how highly he rates the player who ‘makes the team tick’.
Murdo MacLeod says Callum McGregor is ‘Celtic’s player of the season’
Callum McGregor has played in almost all of Celtic’s games this season. In 44 starts, the Hoops have lost just 4 when the captain has been in the team.
And that has left MacLeod in no doubt that the iconic Celtic midfielder is the Parkhead player of the year.
MacLeod told the Daily Record [print edition page 56], “Callum is different to any other Celtic player. He’s the one who goes and gets the ball and gets it moving. He is the one who is always in control.
“I’d say McGregor is Celtic’s player of the season. Others might get some of the headlines but he is the one who makes the team tick.
“A lot of these players maybe play for an hour or come off towards the end. But McGregor goes for 90 minutes, week in, week out.
He’s also added a lot of goals this season. I always feel more comfortable when he is in the middle of the park, and you could say his absence was one of the reasons they lost to Rangers.”

McGregor has been so important for Celtic this season and he was sorely missed against Rangers so it is hard to argue with MacLeod’s assessment that he has been the Parkhead club’s best player this season.
