There isn’t such a thing as a dead rubber when it comes to Celtic and Rangers matches.
On Sunday, supporters around the world, of all colours, will find out why the Glasgow derby is one of the most hotly-contested derbies in the world.
Celtic are champions of Scotland for the 2024/25 season, the league is done and dusted, Rangers will finish second again, but the two will fight it out on Sunday at Ibrox like everything is on the line.
That’s what makes this derby, in particular, out of this world, especially given what panned out last time at Celtic Park when the champions were beaten by Barry Ferguson’s side.
Not only did that defeat seriously sting for Brendan Rodgers and his players, but he also had to listen to the Rangers away fans lapping it up in one corner of the ground.
Celtic have the chance to do that at Ibrox when, for the first time in a number of years, they will be back on enemy ground trying to make their club proud.
Away fans at Celtic and Rangers matches
One man who will be inside Ibrox working for Sky Sports, the host broadcaster for the match, is former Gers striker Kris Boyd.
The Sky pundit touched upon how he is ‘looking forward’ to the match, before noting the away fans that will be in attendance.
Boyd thinks, the Glasgow derby, for Celtic or Rangers supporters, will never get to see the good old days of around 7,000 supporters allowed inside the stadiums.
“But I am looking forward to the game,” shared Boyd.
“For Scottish football, it’s a great spectacle. There will be some Celtic fans back in the ground. We saw what happened last time at Celtic Park with the fans, it was great to see.
“I don’t think it will ever go back to what it was, but hopefully, for Scottish football. Celtic will want to come to Ibrox and show why they are champions. Put on a performance.
“But I think, for Rangers and Barry Ferguson, he has already spoken about it. Very disappointed at the weekend. There are a lot of players fighting for their future because there will be changes at Ibrox in the summer.
How many Celtic away fans will be at Ibrox?
After Celtic confirmed their title over the weekend, after thrashing Dundee United, you can bet your bottom dollar that the away supporters will make themselves known inside Ibrox.
Those attending have been sent an important message from Celtic Supporters’ Liaison Officer on social media.
There is expected to be around 2,000 Celtic away fans for the match, the final derby game of the season, as the champions look for their first win over Rangers in 2025.
After losing the last two, the Hoops will want to put this right and finish the season in style.
