Julen Lopetegui has been spotted on a flight from Madrid to London as he prepares for talks with West Ham United.
Ryan Dabbs has reported on the magazine’s website that they had spotted the Spaniard while on a flight to the UK.
The Spaniard had become a “serious contender” to replace David Moyes. The former Wolverhampton Wanders boss and Ruben Amorim have now held talks with the Hammers.
The search for a Moyes replacement is well underway.
How would Julen Lopetegui set up West Ham United?
There will be many Hammers fans who remember Lopetegui from his time with Wolves.
He wasn’t working with very much and had to switch his tactical approach.In his time with Sevilla, he was much more tactically astute and played differently based on their opposition.
Against tougher opposition, a 4-1-4-1 formation was preferred which used a low block to shut out effective attacks. This could suit the Hammers’ current squad well.Against weaker opponents, Lopetegui opted for a 4-3-3 with a high press.
This attempted to force mistakes which they could then take advantage of. These could be interchanged within a game given the versatile nature of his players at the time.
This could be done in time at the London Stadium. This tactical approach could see Edson Alvarez and Thomas Soucek thrive in the midfield due to their versatility.
Although he has a set approach, this may not be what West Ham fans want as a replacement for Moyes.
There is no guarantee that Lopetegui will provide the attacking style of football that is being demanded.
