Steven Gerrard has just DONE something unusual that has signified that he’s coming back to Ibrox to become New Manager at the club

Steven Gerrard is back in the running to become the next Rangers manager as the club’s hunt for a new boss takes yet another twist.

Steven Gerrard infamously left Rangers for Aston Villa in late 2021 but the Ibrox side haven’t quite been the same since the Liverpool legend jumped ship.

Davide Ancelotti had been the Rangers frontrunner, but Sky Sports claim the Real Madrid assistant is just one of several manager options being discussed at Ibrox.

Now, the Gerrard to Rangers story has taken a fresh twist after the Anfield legend informed former Liverpool teammate Djibril Cisse that he can’t make a charity game next week.

Steven Gerrard pulls out of Djibril Cisse charity match:

Djibril Cisse has confirmed that Steven Gerrard has pulled out of a charity football match in France next week.

In a message on Instagram, Cisse confirmed that Gerrard will not be able to make the ‘Cisse Jubilee’ on 27th May as a team of Cisse All-Stars take on a team of Auxerre Legends at the Stade Abbé Deschamps.

Whilst Cisse did not divulge any details, the former French international striker explained that Gerrard is set to miss the match for ‘professional reasons’.

”My disappointment is great but my respect for my captain goes above all. What we lived together in Istanbul 20 years ago will go above and beyond. Big respect captain.”

Steven Gerrard Rangers manager speculation goes into overdrive:

The situation will naturally put the Rangers manager rumour mill into overdrive as speculation around the return of Steven Gerrard continues to mount.

The Sky Sports report has claimed that Gerrard is one of four potential manager frontrunners, with Ancelotti, Russell Martin and Rob Edwards also considered.

TalkSPORT reckon Ryan Mason is also under consideration.

The news surrounding Gerrard and Cisse will certainly turn heads however, as Rangers fans look ahead to an announcement over who will take the reins next season.
