What James Garner has said about his Everton future as fresh contract update shared
Everton midfielder James Garner is playing at perhaps the best level he has shown on Merseyside, but he is also playing into the final months of his current deal.
The 24-year-old midfielder has played a key role since David Moyes returned to the club back in January, where his game has gone from strength to strength.
Garner has already been linked with a potential move away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium ahead of his deal expiring.
However, Moyes has mooted a new deal for Garner, with the midfielder impressing so much for the Blues this season.
Everton have already seen a number of players depart as free agents at the end of last season, but they want to avoid the same happening with Garner.
With a fresh update emerging over talks ongoing between the club and Garner, the midfielder may have already shared his stance on a possible new deal.
James Garner’s stance on a new Everton contract
Everton News understands that Everton have been keen to sign Garner to a new deal for a number of weeks now.
The 24-year-old is now believed to be locked in talks with the club over new terms ahead of the January transfer window.
In a recent interview with FourFourTwo, Garner shared his delight at playing on Merseyside under the 62-year-old manager.
“I’m enjoying my football, of course. It’s been a great start to the season for the club, and I’ve started quite well myself. I just need to keep on improving, keep on winning games and add a little bit more,” said the midfielder.

Speaking back in October, Garner had this to say on his contract latest: “All I know at the moment [is] nothing’s going [on]. There’s been no talks. I know, obviously, my contract’s up in the summer but from my side, I’ve heard nothing.”
Thomas Tuchel has been impressed with Garner’s performances this season, but they have not been enough to win him an England call-up.
It will be a tall order for the midfielder to make a late push as the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also continue to impress.
Gary Neville was so impressed with Garner during Everton’s recent win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The midfielder has become one of Moyes’ most dependable players and is also able to play across a number of different positions.
With every player available, who should play alongside James Garner in midfield for Everton? 🤔
Speaking to the media last month, the Everton boss made it clear that Garner would be going nowhere.
“We’ve got no intention of letting him go. Absolutely not. We’ll look to renew Jimmy’s contract when we’re ready to do so,” Moyes said last month during a press conference at Finch Farm.
West Ham fans laughed off links to Garner in recent weeks, but the midfielder is quickly becoming one of the more underrated players in the Premier League.
It is vitally important that Everton get his new contract sealed.
