For the first time publicly this season, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has pointed the finger directly at one of his own players, Jayden Bogle, for a poor performance following the disappointing 1-1 draw away at Brentford.
​The draw, secured by a late Dominic Calvert-Lewin header, extended Leeds’ unbeaten run but failed to hide Farke’s frustration with the performance of his right-sided defender. While Farke is usually renowned for shielding his players from public criticism, his post-match comments specifically highlighted where Bogle needed to step up.
​Following a match where the team struggled to transition from defence to attack—a key role for the wing-backs in Farke’s new system—the manager made the striking admission that “Bogle can do better,” particularly regarding his attacking contribution and decision-making in the final third.
​In the run-up to the game, Bogle had been a player critics suggested should be dropped due to an erratic display against Manchester City where he lost possession 14 times. Although Farke backed him to start at Brentford, the manager’s post-game analysis was clear: Bogle did not take his chance to impress. While a fantastic run and pass from Noah Okafor nearly led to a tap-in for Bogle, the manager’s overall view was that the wing-back’s defensive positioning was shaky and his attacking output was well below the standard required.
​Farke, who is often a “shield” for his squad, broke character to state, “We need more from our experienced players… Jayden knows that, he is a smart lad. He must deliver more consistency in his passes and crosses.” This rare, direct criticism signals that the manager is running out of patience with the lapses that are costing the team points and hints at a potential change in the starting XI for the next fixture.
