HITC understands that Celtic and Rangers are open to the possibility of signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips and he could be available this summer.
After winning the Scottish Premiership title, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to improve his squad this summer and they are open to addition of the English midfielder, who has struggled in recent seasons.
It is our understanding that Celtic, alongside old firm rivals Rangers, are interested in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has had a tough time of things since deciding to leave Leeds United in 2022.
Phillips spent the second half of last season on loan at David Moyes’ West Ham United but the defensive midfielder really struggled to hold down a spot in the team.
Phillips interest City have told the Englishman that they will allow him to leave the club this summer. Despite this, Phillips has four years remaining on his contract with the club and they recognise that not many sides may come in with a cash offer.
After his spell in East London went so badly for the English midfielder last season, it is understood that City are now willing to cover all of his wages to get him off the books at the Etihad Stadium.
HITC understands that there are a number of clubs in England who would like to take him including Everton, whilst his former club Leeds also maintain an interest but their failure to seal promotion makes it difficult.
Celtic and Rangers would be keen on the Englishman, purely because they would not have to cover a large percentage of his wages were he to move this summer.
European interest It is not just clubs from the Premier League and Scotland who are understood to be interested with sources confirming that a host of European sides are keen on the defensive midfielder.
HITC understands that there is interest from France, Germany, Spain and Italy with the likes of RB Leipzig as well as Europa League winners Atalanta are understood to be keen.
Lyon and OGC Nice are also understood to be interested in the 28-year-old, as well as Spanish giants Sevilla and German side Eintracht Frankfurt. If he is to move this summer, he won’t be short of options.
