Danny Röhl has wasted no time in identifying the “broken” areas of his Rangers squad following their sobering 2-1 defeat to Hearts. With the Ibrox side now trailing the league leaders by 12 points, Röhl has reportedly sanctioned an immediate move for Tromsø’s midfield powerhouse Jens Hjertø-Dahl to spearhead a January overhaul.
​The loss at Tynecastle exposed a lack of physicality and ball-carrying ability in the Rangers engine room, leading Röhl to target the 6ft 4in Norwegian as his primary priority. Hjertø-Dahl, valued at approximately £5.3 million, is viewed as the ideal candidate to replace “empty jerseys” in the midfield and provide the athletic profile Röhl’s high-energy system demands.
​Speaking ahead of the January 1 opening of the window, Röhl confirmed that talks with agents and targets are already well underway. “The wishes are to get a lot of players in on January 1,” the German manager stated. “We need different profiles for the shapes we want to play. We have to be ruthless.”
​Röhl is working closely with newly appointed football consultant Stig Inge Bjørnebye to tap into the Scandinavian market, with Hjertø-Dahl expected to be the first of several “early” signings. The manager is also reportedly scouting for a new No. 9 and a versatile full-back, as he looks to pivot away from the recruitment failures of the previous regime.
